Scratch and win Estela, 2023

Scratch the Amazonia rubber era (slavery era) and win Estela Casanto, the Asháninca indigenous leader, the protagonist of our contemporary history.

I use serigraphy as a resource to erase/scrape a historical era of subjugation, genocide, and slavery to the Amazonia (feminine of Amazon) and make visible an Ashaninka indigenous leader as a protagonist of our contemporary history.

On the top: Serigraphy of the photography by French photographer E. Robuchon surrounded by Huitotos Indians. Taken in 1914 for the propaganda commissioned by Casa Arana, an extractive rubber company.

Interior photo: Identity card of Estela Casantos (the only public photographic record of her existence; she died in 2021 defending her territory).
